I finally got around to trying out Hammer & Tong after hearing so many good things about this place. The cafe definitely lives up to its hype. I arrived at 12pm and whilst there was a line, I waited less than 10 minutes for a table for two. The atmosphere of the cafe was lively, hustling and bustling but not uncomfortably noisy. Despite being quite busy, the customer service was excellent.
Corn & zucchini fritters, avocado manchego, spinach, chilli tomato relish, poached or fried egg ($17)
Buttermilk lamb, goats cheese, onion rings, eucalyptus & apple gel, frisse ($22)
I was very happy with my corn fitters and was surprised to find cheese on my plate because it wasn't specified on the menu. For those of you who know me, I am a huge fan of cheese so you can imagine my delight! I had a taste of my friend's lamb and it was incredible, particularly the goat's cheese pannacotta. Aside from the food, the coffee was perfect and they use Bonsoy milk in their soy coffees (yay!)
Hammer & Tong is definitely a place I will find myself going back to. I tend to order the same thing time and time again if I like a particular dish but for this cafe, there are so many unique items on the menu I have to try. Maybe next time I'll remember to carry Telfast with me so I can try the crab burger!
